The owners of this house wanted to turn their overgrown, unloved garden into an inviting space with plenty of room for their young family to play, spaces to sit and relax and space to grow their own fruit and vegetables. They also wanted to hide the view of their neighbours’ houses at the far end of the garden. This house has lovely views across the Gloucestershire countryside. Since moving in the owners have put a lot of effort into renovating their home. The garden was very overgrown and unloved.
Feeling overwhelmed they asked for my expertise to produce plans for them so that they could turn their attentions to the outside.
This image, looking down towards the bottom of the garden, shows how it looked before work started. The owners have decided to build their garden themselves over the next year or two. With the help of friends and family they have started by adding some new hedging in the front and rejuvenating or replacing the overgrown hedges in the back.
What did the owners say?
“Sue has produced a fantastic design for our garden that has turned our desperation at an overgrown space that we never thought we would conquer into genuine excitement about the really unique garden we are going to create over the coming months and years for our family to grow up with. Thank you Sue.”
This is their new Master Layout Plan, with the house towards the left and the bottom of the garden on the right. They have a large circular lawn with plenty of room for everyone. There are lots of trees at the bottom of the garden which will make the space feel more private and encourage birds into the garden.
